Fitness related post for your Friday

Do you guys dread getting weighed at the doctor? I seriously cannot tell you how much I loathe it, except when I was pregnant, it was sorta like how heavy can I get?! Okay, not really, my long time readers will remember how I was uber conscious of not eating every little thing my heart desired during pregnancy and I was still Miss Gym Rat. So even tho, I like to think I keep myself in check with eating/drinking (them liquid calories are sneaky), I still dread getting weighed.

So yesterday I had to go to the doctor. *Side Note: I love how they have a sign in their office stating that if your more than 5 minutes late, your appointment will be reschedule and you will be charged the copay anyways, yet they can be TWENTY minutes late getting me back there. I'm gonna start charging them* The nice little itty bitty medical assistant finally called me back, pointed at the scale and very innocently said "If you could get on there for me". I wanted to be like "I COULD, but I don't wanna". Cause I like to make things difficult :)

So I got on, closed my eyes, and hoped for the best (I haven't weighed myself since my 6 week post partum appointment FYI) I was blown away that I weighed 8 pounds LESS than I did before even getting pregnant. This was huge y'all. Before getting pregnant I was in my mind, in the best shape I had EVER been in my life, and until that moment I was. The only thing I can chalk this all up to, is that instead of working behind a desk, my new job is chasing and playing with a VERY active 1 year old.

I did what any normal girl would do and once the medical assistant left the room, I grabbed my phone and texted everyone I knew about this amazing news! If this isn't even more of a kick in the pants to keep doing what I'm doing, I don't know what is. While I'm pretty happy with where I am now, I know I could be better, anyone ever feel like that?

2 month Check Up

So my little dude was less than thrilled about getting poked twice. Lets start with the happy stuff - he weighed in at 10lbs 10 ounces (in the 45-50% range), his height measured at 22 3/4 inches (50% range), and his head circumference is 15 3/4 inches (50% range). The good doctor got to have a conversation with Mr. Troy. Troy just couldn't stop gabbing it up with him, it was adorable!

The sad stuff - Holy crap, I was NOT prepared to cry. I mean, I always hear mom's cry when their babies get shots, but I didn't think it'd bug me. I mean, whats the big deal? Just a small shot and its necessary and it'll keep him healthy. WRONG! The nurse came in and thankfully they combined 4 of the shots into 1, so there would only be 2 pokes. She asked that he lay on the table to make it easier/safer (no problemo - don't want to get poked by accident if he squirms), and hold his arms across his chest. I put my mouth near his ear and started talking to him about what a good boy he was, that we can go home after this and chow down...you know all the good things babies want to hear, and I then started to just stare at him, thinking he'd be distracted when he got poked. Right when the 1st shot happened, all hell broke loose! He looked at me and his eyes filled with tears and he took a deep breath in and let out a scream I've never heard before. It was the worst scream - the "Im in pain!!!" cry. I put my cheek to his and started crying, and trying to attempt my best comforting pep talk through the tears. I was so embarrassed and the nurse actually ended up rubbing MY back afterwards to comfort ME. She told me all new mommies have problems with this part. Whew, glad Im not alone :)

I calmed little dude down (via boobies!!) and let him just chill, then it was on our way home we went. He woke up when we got home, shot back 4 more ounces of the good ol' milk, and is now peacefully sleeping in his swing. His next appointment is on June 1st, where we get to do this again......Oy vey!

6 Week Post Partum Check up

Well ladies it has happened - my 6 week post partum doctor appointment. I prepared myself to hear the worse (that I am only 10lbs down from my delivery day weight), but guess what? I am 7lbs away from my pre pregnancy weight, AY-O! Total, I gained 34lbs and I've lost almost every single one of those el bee's. Even though I'm 7 lbs away from where I was on my 1st appointment, I want to lost 10lbs and tone. I'm hopeful since I'll be starting my workouts ASAP, as in TOMORROW MORNING, EEK! Paired with breast feeding (er, pumping), I'm feelin pretty confident.

Everything else checked out perfectly, all my stitches are gone, and I go back in in about 2 weeks to get my IUD put in. My OB said it's perfectly safe to use for breast feeding and after hearing about all the risks, I still decided it was for me. I'm not wanting anymore babies for at least 2 years. Our plan is to wait until Troy turns 2 years old and then we'll start trying. Although I wouldn't be opposed to starting a couple months shy of Troy's 2nd bday, since we all know it takes 9 months to cook a baby. So there's our plan. Oh and for the waited 6 week post partum belly pic - this is what I'm workin with. I will keep posting pictures, but maybe not once a week. My belly has for the most part gone done due to the baby boy. So now it'll just be weight loss/toning progress. So maybe I'll post once a month? Or just whenever I'm feeling confident :)

Switching up topics, I wanna gag about "poor little victim, Michelle" on The Bachelor - the girls tell all, from last night.
She was a psycho! I don't wanna hear how it was just how her sense of humor is, or she puts so much pressure on herself because she's a single mom. No honey, your crazy and fit for a straight jacket. No one liked you and you talked MAYJA crap behind people's backs, so it's no surprise that you were getting insults hurled at you. End rant.
Oh and how GORGEOUS were Madison (aka vampire girl) earrings?!

Have a FABULOUS Tuesday ladies. Next time you hear from me, I will have hit the gym for the 1st time since my wittle bundle of love was born.

** Okay I can't leave without leaving you all with some pictures of my little dude from yesterday. I am in luuuurve**
"OOOOOOO"
Say Hi to all my followers, Mr. Troy Maximus!
"Whatcha talkin' about mom?"
"Hmm...I don't know mom, I'm gonna have to think about this"
"What do you butterflies think about what mom's talkin about?"

So. The Checkup -

So the doctor appointment was a success! I was dilated and I was able to get my membranes stripped - WOOT WOOT! When she stripped them though, OUCHIE!! It was not a comfortable experience whatsoever! Since my cervix has been closed throughout this whole pregnancy, I had never felt her IN my cervix. Well today, I did and OOOOO boy. It felt like INTENSE pressure and period cramps. I mean to the MAX. She was pushing down on my stomach at one point with her fingers still in there, and she asked if I could feel what she was pushing down on? I told her I couldn't fee specifically WHAT she was touching, but I could definitely feel her in there haha. She said she was touching the top of his head :) It made me so happy and jealous she could feel him. I shoulda asked if she could feel hair ;-) After she was done she said I am about 1.5-2cm dilated and to get dressed and come to her office so we could discuss future appointments. Once I got dressed and sat down, she quickly scheduled me 2 Non Stress Tests for Troy and my induction date. The first non stress test is the 21st, then I have one the 25th, and theeeeeen ladies and gents, the absolute latest day for me to go into labor will be: JANUARY 27TH at 6AM SHARP! Exactly 2 weeks (aka 14 days) from today. I was sorta disappointed that it's so far away, but my OB said that since my cervix isn't fully effaced, she'd rather give it some more time. If we induced sooner when it wasn't ready (knocking at a locked door she called it), then I could be in labor for 2-3 days rather than just 1 day. She also said that since she'd like to see me deliver vaginally, being in labor for longer than 24 hours, my chances of a C Section are greater. We shall see if I make it till the 27th. With my membranes being stripped, I've heard women can go into labor anywhere between immediately to 48 hours. Being the kind thoughtful woman I am, I am going to help move that process along any way I can. So I am pumping up my exercise ball and sitting on it (opens pelvic muscles), I am eating pizza for dinner that has spicy pepperoni, sausage, hamburger meat, and onions. I am also going to load it up with some hot sauce (covering the "spicy induces labor" myth). I took a few laps already around my apartment complex and walked around Costco and Motherhood Maternity, so let's hope Troy gets the hint already. We want him out!

WHAT?!

It is almost the end of the 1st week of maternity leave, whewy! This week has been very busy, and have a feeling next week will be a lot less out and about, and more in doors.

Last night I was able to sleep for 8.5 glorious hours! I could have slept longer, but Nick was going to work and since I sleep like crap without him (inserts "awwwww's" here), I was up and to the laptop to check in with my work emails. I grabbed my coffee and sat in my office (couch, blankie, decaf coffee) and away I went. I worked for about an hour, had some bfast, went for a nice brisk walk (it was FREEZING and damp this morning), then came back to get ready for my doctor appointment.

My doctor appointment was so disappointing - I.am.not.dilated.at.ALL! I have made ZERO progress since last week. What the heck Troy?! You give your mama contractions and pelvic pressure so I can hear "No progress"? Well that's okay, you just come on out when your ready, but come next week, the OB and I will be scheduling your eviction date. According to my measurements, my fundamental height measurement has gone up 1cm, so it's now 37, so he must either be getting longer or he's just stretching out in there. It makes total sense because I can feel it in my ribs. He is still head down and in the right position, so in my opinion, let's get this show on the road! My OB assured me he will for sure be here by 41 weeks, it's just a matter if he comes out before then, or if we get him out. The kicker of it is, I could get him out sooner if I wanted by my doctor stripping the membranes, but since the cervix is closed, it was a no go.

Today, I'm feeling eh. When I sleep, my hips get sore and numb, so I flip like a fish every hour or so, and then when I went on my walk, my hips were getting charlie horses, blah! This is the stretch of pregnancy where things just hurt I'm guessing. Also probably the stretch where ribs get broken, ha ha! Kidding....sorta.

Change of plans with my photo shoot as well - it's overcast and damp here in Sacramento and it's freezing, so this diva is waiting till next week and for a sunnier day. With no progress and my cervix still closed, we have some time. The good news in all of this is I still have more time to eat what I want, mua haha!

Poked and Prodded

So today was the glucose test -- I got there and was given a choice of orange or lime glucose cocktail. Since I'm a rebel, I got the lime since the orange seems popular. I was fully expecting to not mind it because people say its just super sweet. Well, my best description of this drink is a flat WARM Sprite w/2 extra tablespoons of sugar to give it a thicker texture and sweeter taste. I had to drink it within 5 minutes so I can fully understand how a lot of women get nausea's. You aren't allowed to drink so much as a sip of water to chase it down. The least they could do would be to give you a lime wedge and some salt. After 1 hour waiting, and a pinch in the vein, they'll give my OB the results on Thursday. I'm hoping to hear NOTHING. No news is good news, so unless I hear something from them, I'm considering myself golden.

Now the OB appointment was sorta a let down for me. I got the "Your going to wanna watch that..." comment about my weight!! EEK! I gained 7.5lbs since my last visit a month ago, and I guess they don't like that sorta thing? Its all I could focus on the whole appointment once she told me that. So I of course wanted to talk about it. I asked her how many calories I should be taking in because I'm really not THAT bad of a junk food eater and I workout twice a day 4 days a week. She then proceeded to brush her comment off and tell me how it's really not that big of a deal, my weight gain as a whole isn't bad and baby Troy is looking perfect, it's just 7.5lb weight gain is more than they wanna see in a matter of a month. Sooooooo, I have to cut down my snacking and empty calories (juices, my big bowl of ice cream, or big bowl of cereal (KASHI BTW!), etc.). After the OB, I took my sulking self to the gym for leg day and I did 40 minutes of cardio (20 minutes treadmill w/incline & 20 minutes with high resistance on elliptical). With all this water weight I'm carrying (blaming some of that weight on water!!), I sweat bad! I drip all over the machine, it's quite a site which is why I get the 'should I call an ambulance?' looks from other gym goers. While sweating myself thinner, I started to demise my weight gain plan for the rest of pregnancy. I have about 87 days till this little man is at his due date and 66 days until he is full term. He is measuring about 5 days behind my gestational calendar, so I'm making the best out of that time while he is in there. After the gym, I went to Target and stocked up on my old favorite dessert: Smart Ones! I used to get these things for desserts all the time when I lived in North Carolina and I got the bad without the guilt of calories. Since it's my sweet tooth I believe gets me in trouble (and all those PB&J's I've had in the past month!!), I figure this will be a better alternative to my bowl of ice cream. Now don't think I'm skipping my ice cream forever, I'm just putting it on the back burner for these delicious treats: (I was not given free products or $ to advertise this)

Key lime for that tangy/sweet craving hit

who doesn't love strawberry shortcake?!

For the chocolate/peanut butter monster in me

I figure if I nix out some of those PB&J's and the fatty foods, I should be golden. With keeping up my workouts, I BETTER not see this insane weight gain again. I see where that 7.5lbs went to - straight to my thighs. Not kidding ladies, their larger and more giggly. My running paid off and elliptical is laaaaaame. Don't get me wrong, I would do anything to carry a healthy baby, I'm just throwing myself a pity party and planning my attack so I don't have to hear this comment again from my doctor. This was my last month to month appointment and now comes the every 3 weeks, so I go back in 3 weeks exactly, lets hope it's a better time for me and my pride!

Forecast is calling for scattered hot flashes

Im alive! Sorry there was no blog for you to read 1st thing when you wake up [cause I know you all log on ASAP just to see moi haha}. I had a very short day at work due to my doctor appointment today. It was a new patient/I still feel like I have a cold sort of appointment. I couldn't get in to see this doctor for a whole week, so even though I feel much better than I did yesterday, it was a no brainer to keep the appointment. Not only that, but I wanted my flu shot for free :) So this pregnant lady is covered from the flu this flu season. I know a couple people at work who act fluish, so I'm very happy I got myself covered this early in the game.
So at my appointment, I experienced one of the most embarrassing things - a hot flash! Here was this friendly doctor just sitting on her rolling stool (ever notice how they get right up in your face when they sit there or is that just me?) minding her own business, when I start to sweat. I dont just mean 'oh, I could use some ice water', I'm talking damp face, neck, and.....BOOB SWEAT! Yup. So embarrassing. Due to my paranoia that she'd think I was an odd bird, I brought it out in the open. She was going in to feel my neck and lymph node area (checking for a pesky ear infection), and I shout "I HAVE TO WARN YOU....I am suffering a major heat flash right now, so please pardon my sweat". Yup, I said it. Whe
n I get nervous, I'm a talker. It probably makes things more awkward than they need to be. She was so nice, she didn't mind and laughed it off and said it was the hormones most likely (my temp was normal).

It doesn't stop there. Oooooo no. So there I am in church on Sunday, and during singing, I break out in sweat! Boob sweat, struck again! It was a chilly rainy day on Sunday, so being the overzealous 'I want winter NOW!' girl that I am, I over anticipated with uggs and a warm cardigan. BAD MISTAKE. These hot flashes are hitting at the most inconvenient times.

In other preggo news: My doctor appointment went well today (other than the hot flash). Found out that I do indeed have fluid in my ears. I have a list of okay'd med's I can take, but I'm still debating whether or not to take anything or just wait it out. I am holding out my entire pregnancy to take any med's -- save up all my credits for that big one at the end, the epidural :) Tomorrow I have my glucose test -- Woop de freakin doo. To be honest, I'm not dreading it. I won't get to work till around 10ish, and then I have to leave again (oh darn) at 240 for my OB appointment. I just don't want to use all my sick and vaca time, so I thought I'd drop by for a few hours :)
