What I've Been Up To
Other than kicking butt at my workouts? Seriously girls, I am so proud of myself. Everyday this week I have worked out. I've worn my heart rate monitor every time and I've burned at least 409 calories every day this week. Food wise, I've been pretty good. Smaller portions, lotsa protein shakes, you know that sorta thing.

I am most definitely seeing a difference so I hope I can keep this up. My current plan is 5 days a week. Since I don't have access to the gym until we move and I sign up for a new one, my plan is still Level 3 of 30 Day Shred combined with either Level 1, 2 or 3 of Biggest Loser Boot camp. I've received a few of your emails saying your Shredding too
This makes me VERY excited, since I know it's such an effective program. Also, it's Summertime, and who doesn't want a bangin body, right? Right!
I've also been doing a little bit of this...
Gotten a nice little pedicure (*Please ignore the ugly feet, who has pretty feet anyways?*)
And I got one of these babies...a gel manicure.
I've heard so many girls say how awesome they are and how nice it is cause the paint NEVER chips. I love having paint on my nails, but with washing my and all the time and just doing everyday things, mine ALWAYS ALWAYS chip by the 2nd day. So I'm always changing it or just don't wear any. I am happy to report, it is day 2 in the above photo and I have absolutely NO chipping. This fancy shmancy gel nail polish wasn't cheap (which unfortunately I didn't find out till after I already had it done, BOO!). At my salon it was $25! Just for a basic manicure, but with this gel nail polish. I will definitely be looking into a cheaper alternative because no way can I afford this sort of pampering. Next time I am at Ulta, I will be stopping by the nail bar to look for some gel nail polish on the cheaper level.

Okay, so...
So last weeks workout updates
So let me 'splain... As you've read, T Money had shots on Wednesday, which left him a cranky/sick boy the rest of the week. I was way too exhausted to get to the gym after waking up every 2 hours every night, so I met with my p/t, Miss Jill, and called it good. I did level 2 each time which is where I feel comfortable enough to do the moves effectively and with proper form and still be challenged.
This week the workout plane is the same as last (sans Shred). On Thursday, I am actually hitting the gym with my BFF Jenni
We are going to be doing some Zumba and shakin what our mommas gave us. Haven't tried the craze known as Zumba? Try it!
So that will be my cardio for Thursday. Besides Monday, it's supposed to be gorgeous out (FINALLY! All we've had is rain), so I'm planning on an outdoor run for Tuesday. And guess what?! I am going to be signing up for a 8 mile run for the end of August, EEEK! I'm pretty nervous. That's the longest distance I've done in an event. The furthest I've ran in an event thus far is 6.2 miles! So I will be needing to train for this little 8 miler ASAP!
Thank you girls so much for the support with Troy. He is doing MUCH better and the doc said he is absolutely 110% a-ok. Just a more extreme reaction to the shots than last time.

Switching gears
Good morning ladies! It's Monday which means a brand new week. Another fab-ulous tid bit worth mentioning? The sun is shining and it's supposed to be 77 degrees today - A YO! Today my mamacita and I are heading to pick up a stroller to take with us to Mexico for Mr. T. Pretty sweet deals can be found on craigslist, check it out sometime if you haven't already.
This weekend was awesome like I knew it'd be - Nickmesiter and I took a walk or two with the little dude, I hit up Costco with mi madre, and yesterday I got...a SUNBURN! I may be the only crazy person alive that is joyous about a sunburn, but to me, its great. It means the sun is out and Im soaking it up. My fine English skin just couldn't take the heat yesterday, so this is how it repays me
This was just sitting outside in 70 degree weather. Can you imagine what would have happened had I not exposed my delicate white skin to anything before Mexico?! GEESH, Jose Cuervo would be my BFF the whole trip if ya know what I mean. After my ruby red arm heals, I'll be sliding into a tanning bed till it's go time. Im SOOO excited.
Speaking of Mexico, I know ya'll are sick of hearing of my workouts, buuut, it's my blog, so get used to it haha. I've dropped my original workout plan that I had previously. I was browsing bodybuilding.com, and came across a section where they will give you a step by step workout tailored to what your wanting to do (lose weight or build muscle). Yes, I am wanting to lose weight, BUT, I'd rather build muscle. My #1 goal right now is to tone/lose inches, so thats what I went with. After plugging in all my information, it spit out a 12 week schedule that Jamie Eason designed. You might be saying, Jamie Who? So let me show you Jamie Eason and you tell me if you wouldn't wanna look like her...

She's a fitness model and bodybuilding.com spokeswoman, and she knows her shizz. 'Nough said
So my workouts will be looking like this:
Monday - Warm up on Tread 20 minutes & Legs
Tuesday - Warm up on Tread 20 minutes and Push
Wednesday - Run for 45 minutes-1 hour
Thursday - Warm up on Tread for 20 minutes and Pull
Friday - Warm up on Tread for 20 minutes, Shoulders/Back/Abs and X Bike (30 minute class)
Saturday - Rest
Sunday - Rest
Splitting up your workouts in Pull, Push, and Leg exercises is a fast and effective way to get your results. I have blogged about it before (maybe a year ago?) and it has proven to do me good. The quick explanation for you new readers (hello and I love you!!) is push = all exercises are geared towards you "push" muscles, Pull= all exercises are geared towards your pull muscles and legs = duh, your legs! With pull and push, you are combining a bunch of different muscles and not just doing the typical workout schedule: Monday- biceps Tuesdays - abs Wednesdays - etc, etc. etc. You get the idea. This is a 12 week program, but with only 6 weeks till Mexico, Im confident I'll have some serious results to show for it.
Also, I have to confess something to you girl.... I am NOT running a marathon this year...EEEK! I know, I know, I was all amped for it, but honestly, I was scared shitless. I mean, I just had a baby, and after healing for 6 weeks, and then I gotta get my endurance back, it was just too much. Actually my aunt and sister were totally fine with it (the ones I was going to run with), and they were the reason I was going to do it this year. Do I want to run a marathon? Sure. One day, probably next year. But I just think it'd be too much to do this year, and fitting training in with Troy being so young, so my goal this year is to run a marathon sometime after my birthday (September, but before November. So sometime in October would be fabulous since the weather wouldn't be too shabby. So I will start training for that sometime after Mexico. Whew, so glad I got that off of my sunburned chest, haha!

Operation get the bo-day back!
Good evening lovelies! Yes, evening. My day has been pretty hectic - in a good way of course. Troy has started to take shorter naps during the day. Shorter meaning 30 MAYBE 45 minutes at a time. Then he's up and he's a handful. Being the mama of a boy is gonna be a crazy ride, I can already tell. He was wanting to be held which can be a total issue at times since my plan was to clean the house. Since the little dude was ultra clingy to mama, I put him in the ergo baby carrier (which he can now face forward it, woot woot!) and got both bathrooms done before he started getting bored and fussing. So out of the carrier and into his swing he went. I started cleaning the kitchen thinking he was good to go, until I heard more fussing. So, needless to say, it took me foreeeevvvveeeeer to clean today.
Operation get the bo-day (aka BODY to those who don't speak Karli) back is still alive and kicking. Today was 2.65 mile run on Tread and abs. I used to do planks a lot pre Troy with ease. HA! Well planks just laughed at me in the face! My plan says I gotta do 3 for 30 seconds. Not too bad right? I was shaking sooooooo badly. I mean, BAD! I watched the sweat drip onto the mat under me and my arms shaking out in front of me. Thank GOD there isn't anyone really there at that hour. Twas pretty embarrassing for moi. But at least I'm there, right? Right! If Troy allows me - meaning he isn't a fussy butt this week, I will be going to the gym every day this week (Except Sat & Sun of course) .That will be my first full week of working out since Troy, what what? I know in a post a couple weeks ago, I said my goal would be back to running a 5K every morning. Well that "couple of weeks" is THIS week I believe, and yaaaaaa, that's not happening. I'm giving myself this week and next week to get back to it. That way it'll be a consistent 2 weeks of running again. I'm just gonna have to learn to roll with the punches since little dude is here - there are always gonna be hiccups with a baby. 53 days till Mexico ladies!

Gams
Happy Hump Day!! Today is my monthly "Mommy and Me" get together with Bestie Jenni and Sara with their little girls. I look forward to these get together all month, it's always so much fun and it's great to get outta the house with the little dude. I also get the pleasure of picking up the Bunny Boo from school today, double bonus today!
Lets talk about working out - the reason why I started my blog in the 1st place. First up- LEGS! - having killer toned/semi muscular legs have always been a goal of mine. Before pregnancy, I was very happy with my legs. They were strong runners legs- Toned and tan and carried me for miles *le sigh*. But now it's time to get that back! Next week is my 6 week post partum checkup where I get the okay to start running again, and I'm not wasting anytime, I'll be back at the gym the following morning, mua haha! Some women are obsessed with the thin look. Think Victoria Secret models (I'm looking at YOU Giselle Bechlkajskdjakjsdn), and Megan Fox sorta celebs

No gracias. I look at legs on Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Lopez, Juliane Hough, and fitness guru Jamie Eason, and drool! I mean these girls have amazingly toned and strong looking legs

So with that being said, I am sharing my plan of attack on my gams! Come in Oxygen Magazine. I've always had great luck with Oxygen magazines workouts and am piecing my total body workout by flipping through old issues and picking and choosing. Since these are all strength training exercises, I put running (hello marathon training is about to begin!) and XBike on my "to do's" for cardiovascular

Wish me luck ladies! Tomorrow I'll dive more into my cardio/marathon planning and training, EEEK! Mar-a-thon! Twenty six point two miles! SCARY!! Any tips for a marathon virgin?

Poked and Prodded
So today was the glucose test -- I got there and was given a choice of orange or lime glucose cocktail. Since I'm a rebel, I got the lime since the orange seems popular. I was fully expecting to not mind it because people say its just super sweet. Well, my best description of this drink is a flat WARM Sprite w/2 extra tablespoons of sugar to give it a thicker texture and sweeter taste. I had to drink it within 5 minutes so I can fully understand how a lot of women get nausea's. You aren't allowed to drink so much as a sip of water to chase it down. The least they could do would be to give you a lime wedge and some salt. After 1 hour waiting, and a pinch in the vein, they'll give my OB the results on Thursday. I'm hoping to hear NOTHING. No news is good news, so unless I hear something from them, I'm considering myself golden.
Now the OB appointment was sorta a let down for me. I got the "Your going to wanna watch that..." comment about my weight!! EEK! I gained 7.5lbs since my last visit a month ago, and I guess they don't like that sorta thing? Its all I could focus on the whole appointment once she told me that. So I of course wanted to talk about it. I asked her how many calories I should be taking in because I'm really not THAT bad of a junk food eater and I workout twice a day 4 days a week. She then proceeded to brush her comment off and tell me how it's really not that big of a deal, my weight gain as a whole isn't bad and baby Troy is looking perfect, it's just 7.5lb weight gain is more than they wanna see in a matter of a month. Sooooooo, I have to cut down my snacking and empty calories (juices, my big bowl of ice cream, or big bowl of cereal (KASHI BTW!), etc.). After the OB, I took my sulking self to the gym for leg day and I did 40 minutes of cardio (20 minutes treadmill w/incline & 20 minutes with high resistance on elliptical). With all this water weight I'm carrying (blaming some of that weight on water!!), I sweat bad! I drip all over the machine, it's quite a site which is why I get the 'should I call an ambulance?' looks from other gym goers. While sweating myself thinner, I started to demise my weight gain plan for the rest of pregnancy. I have about 87 days till this little man is at his due date and 66 days until he is full term. He is measuring about 5 days behind my gestational calendar, so I'm making the best out of that time while he is in there. After the gym, I went to Target and stocked up on my old favorite dessert: Smart Ones! I used to get these things for desserts all the time when I lived in North Carolina and I got the bad without the guilt of calories. Since it's my sweet tooth I believe gets me in trouble (and all those PB&J's I've had in the past month!!), I figure this will be a better alternative to my bowl of ice cream. Now don't think I'm skipping my ice cream forever, I'm just putting it on the back burner for these delicious treats: (I was not given free products or $ to advertise this)
Key lime for that tangy/sweet craving hit
who doesn't love strawberry shortcake?!
For the chocolate/peanut butter monster in me
I figure if I nix out some of those PB&J's and the fatty foods, I should be golden. With keeping up my workouts, I BETTER not see this insane weight gain again. I see where that 7.5lbs went to - straight to my thighs. Not kidding ladies, their larger and more giggly. My running paid off and elliptical is laaaaaame. Don't get me wrong, I would do anything to carry a healthy baby, I'm just throwing myself a pity party and planning my attack so I don't have to hear this comment again from my doctor. This was my last month to month appointment and now comes the every 3 weeks, so I go back in 3 weeks exactly, lets hope it's a better time for me and my pride!

Fit Mama
So I wanted a DVD I could do at home that focuses on pregnant women and keeping their bodies fit in a safe way. That way I don't have to call my doctor every time I wanna do a DVD. So I went on Amazon and saw a lot of good reviews on Fit Mom
I finally got it in the mail yesterday and watched a little snip of it last night. It has a little section where you do salsa, yoga, and some cardio. So I'm thinking I do this DVD 3 times a week, with my walks, with my gym times (which at the moment is 2 days a week -- yeah yeah, I'm a slacker), I'll be sittin pretty. Or sittin not as heavy. I get comments like "oh after you worked so hard to lose the weight..." or "Get ready to work out like you've never worked out before after having it" and it's like like SHHH!! Here's the thing people: I KNOW I'm gonna have to workout like crazy to get back to where I was at. But the thing is, that's part of the reason of why I worked out so hard in the 1st place - I wanted to be fit as possible before I got pregnant. That way after I have the baby, it wont be like I'm starting from scratch. Plus I know my way around a gym and I know what blasts fat and builds muscle. So haters can suck it!
Tomorrow is the big day!! I have to post more pics of the belly. I know I'm that 1st time mom that's like "LOOK AT MY BELLY!! IT'S HUGE!!" But seriously, I do have a gut. Its not quite the pregnant gut, but it's there. This morning was the 1st morning I actually woke up and it was already there. It usually takes a couple hours to set in and by evening time it's fully there! Nick is pulling for twins, but I'm thinking I am either a) further along than I think or b) I'm just measuring big (lucky me and lucky va jay jay haha)

Im lame
Okay, I am so so lame. After telling you all a good trick to sticking to your workouts, is writing them down like an appointment, I totally have flaked ALL my workouts this week! GASP! I have not worked out since last Saturday and my 5 mile run. To be honest, the only excuse I have is I've been tired. Like exhausted. Everyday this week, it feels like I stayed up super late, when in fact I have gone to bed at 9pm the latest (I get up at 4:30). So by the time 4pm rolls around, I have not wanted to do anything but sleep. What.the.HECK.KARLI?!
I'm feeling kinda down on myself, but I'm not going to let it suck me down and get me down. I am moving on with knowing I will be going to the gym Saturday morning after a much needed sleeping in session, and will be going to the gym later that evening when Nick gets home from work.
I promise my workout updates will be more uplifting and motivational. I know some people come to my blog for motivation, and I LOVE motivating. So this is the plan stan's:
Friday: Nada - family is coming over for din din
Saturday: 45 minutes cardio (20 minutes stair stepper, 25 minutes elliptical) + legs
Sunday: Shred
Monday: Rest
Tuesday: 30 minute run + upper body
Wednesday: X BIKE + legs + abs
Thursday: 40 minutes cardio (30 minutes walking on incline + 10 minute stair stepper)
Friday: Rest
Saturday: 45 minutes cardio (30 minutes elliptical + 15 minutes running at 6.2mph)
So there is my modified plan and I'm sticking to it. I read all these motivational quotes like "Someone busier than you is running" or think about how women who are 10x more tired than me, are working their asses into bikini shape. Or even just browsing Beth's blog about how much she runs, makes me want to drop the bon bons and get onto that pavement! Speaking of Beth, go over to get blog Shut up and Run to enter blog. So just DO IT Karli!

WOOT WOOT!
Buenos Dias lovely readers!
This week seems to be dragging. Work is busy, but seeing that sunshine outside everyday, get's me antsy for the weekend. How can they expect me to work when I see people jogging and riding their bikes by my window enjoying the sunshine.
There is something to be said for losing weight and when warm weather comes around, being ecstatic! I actually bought my 1st pair of shorts! I haven't worn shorts in ooooo, 7 years? Not that I look completely horrible in short, but in my mind I looked horrible and was terribly self conscious. So, I'm busting them out. And speaking of summer clothes, I got my package of Forever 21 stuff in the mail!! I will take pics probably this weekend so you can all see, but until then, this is what I ordered right after I placed the 1st (I didn't see them when I placed my 1st order):

Is it obvious I'm obsessed with Maxi's? In a previous post, I showed you all my items I got at the actual Forever 21 store (opposed to online). Forever 21 has amazing prices and the clothes are pretty decent quality. In my opinion, their quality is just as nice as Target's. (ahhh, Target and Forever 21 = LOVE!). F21 is my ultimate stop for updating my wardrobe when it gets a little worn down.
Since I'm on a roll with talking all things 'Summer' related, last night after an INTENSE workout (will talk about that in a minute), Nick and I headed over to Lowes, where we scored a sweet deal on a new (propane) BBQ. We actually got a BBQ not too long ago, but it was a charcoal and it seems to take forever to heat it up and when your on a time crunch on work nights, you want something to heat up fast.
So yours truly, will be enjoying some delicious marinating since Monday steaks after some XBike tonight :)
So last nights workout was.....INTENSE. I was sweating out of every pore my friends. After Nicky-poo and I finished our upper body workout, my shoulders were D-E-A-D! So onto Tread I went, and that's when the nausea set in. There are times, that if I lift at my max (like yesterday), and then jump right on the treadmill, things can get a little woozy. So I took it slow on Tread for about 5 minutes, walking at an incline of 9 at 3.8mph, I was able to raise my heart rate in a way that didn't seem like a total shock to my body. Once it was raised - it was ON! I ran just below a sprint for 5 minutes, ran at a 6.0 for 23 minutes, and then cooled down at a 3.5. Sometimes when you get into that groove in your workout and your ipod just happens to hit every song with a mad beat, you feel untouchable. You reach that workout high, and sooner or later, you don't even care to wipe that sweat from your forehead. THAT was last night's workout.
Have a beautiful day lovely readers!

Babies and stuff
So the California weather has been so weird in Sacramento for like the past 2 weeks! For a few days, it'll be bordering on 80, and then it'll switch up to like 3 days of cold and rain and winds. However, today and the next few days are going to be GORGEOUS! The kinda weather people think about when they think 'California'.
Not too bad, right?
I hope you all had a fabulous Mothers Day weekend! Mine was filled with a 3 miler on Tread on Saturday morning, and celebrating Mothers day with the fam over at my parents house with MUY bueno food and muy bueno family.
Since my Saturday run at the gym, I have done ZERO exercise, but I did manage to squeeze in a great dinner with Bestie since we were 4 years old and her beautiful baby Addison last night

Isn't Addison just precious?! I am so happy for Lisa :) Now, if only I could clone Addi love hehe.
Onto the sweat and blood of this blog (ok, maybe not blood): WORKOUTS!! Like I mentioned before, I have not done any working out since my 3 miler on Saturday AM! This is unacceptable, especially considering the role with working out I was on last week! So my plan for the rest of this week:
Monday: off
Tuesday: 30 minute run (3 miles) +15 minute stair stepper +Upper body strength
Wednesday: 30 minute XBIKE - aka, watch your weight melt into a puddle beneath your bike
Thursday: OFF - dinner at families
Friday: 30 minute run (3 miles) + 15 minute stair stepper +back & abs
Saturday: long outdoor 5 mile run on the trail
*Also today through Friday, there will be 3 mile walks during my lunch break with a couple of the girls I work with*
I'm treating EVERY workout this week like a last chance workout (Biggest Loser style!), so I know I'm gonna be going to bed exhausted. Always on the menu (or not on the menu, rather), is NOT eating a bunch of crap and overeating. I don't really eat horribly, I actually eat very clean and good, but I nibble when I get home and when I cook din din. So no nibbling. Ms. Fergilicous herself said she uses tactics such as telling herself that french fries have poison on them, to stop her from eating. So at night, the only food that's not dowsed in cyanide, is the food for dinner and my protein shake/bar for dessert.
What do YOU find that motivates you to do your own "last chance workout" ?

Le Sigh
So I stalk skinny runner's blog. This girl cracks me up, and she motivates the HECK outta me to run even when I don't wanna. So ever since I saw her carrying this purse, I have been secretly dreaming about it ever since. I have NEVER been one to drop major $$ on a purse, but when I have a purse I love, I use it for a long time. My birthday is in September, and yes I know that's 4 months away, but after thinking about it for a couple months (I know, I'm crazy for thinking about my bday 9 months before), I have found that THIS Kate Spade purse is what I want. Not only that, but I have found a couple promotional codes, that takes $73 off this purse AND their offering free ground shipping. So the purse comes to $292 with all the fees, originally $325. Since Skinny Runner can do no wrong in my eyes, I am copying her to a 'T' with the color I want - the red :)
This is such a classic purse and it's one that I'd keep and love forever :) (think about it mama :) )
Onto workouts, you know..the important things in life. So yesterday Nick opted to stay home from the gym, but I forged ahead. I took full advantage of my gym time and decided to try something new - the stair stepper. Different from the stair master, the stair stepper is actually climbing stairs. DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE THE POWER OF CHANGING YOUR ROUTINE. Holy moly, my legs were on fiya! I did only 15 minutes (75 floors!!!), and then it was onto legs. My little black shorts are burned in my mind, and I was pushing hard my friends. I had my own little last chance workout in the gym, sans Jillian and Bob. Today Nick and I are back to the gym and it'll be back on that stair stepper torture device, and abs, back and triceps. I'm just a tad short of this (*insert sarcasm here*)
so you can see my reasoning in wanting to continue to work them till they pop.
